Two Dove Canyon Dogs Looking For A New Permanant Home

Milo and Mia are great family dogs and are in need of a new permanent home.  Their current family is sad to give them up but due to personal reasons, they want to find  homes that can provide them with the attention and care they deserve.

MEET MIA:  She is a 1-1/2 year old, black and white Terrier/Chi Mix.  She is 20 lbs, microchipped, crate and potty trained.  Mia is good on leash, knows how to sit for a treat.  Mia knows better than to jump on you, so she bounces away instead.  She is smart and is eager to learn new tricks.  Full of energy, she loves to bounce and run.  Mia would prefer living with a family who will walk her and take her along on outside activities.
She is good with other dogs, but would like a home where there are no cats.

Mia is independent and inquisitive and very sweet.  She likes to cuddle and would love to be spoiled by sleeping next to you.  When she is held, she loves to snuggle against you.  Mia is spayed and comes with clothes, her own crate and bedding.

.
MEET MILO:  Milo is also 1-1/2 years old and is a black and white Chi/Weenie mix.  Small but mighty, he is 12 lbs., microchipped, crate and potty trained.  Milo will sit for treats and is good on a leash.  Milo's perfect home would be with a family but prefer's older kids, little kids make him a bit nervous.  He is a little shy and cautious, but warms up quickly.  When he wants to be petted, he will do a entertaining growl prance.  Milo would love to go to a new home with Mia, but if that's not possible, he should live in a home where he is the only dog and gets all the attention.  Milo also is inquisitive, cuddly, and would love to snuggle every night watching TV with his family.  Inquisitive and cuddly, he loves to snuggle next you while watching  TV.  Milo will bring his clothes, crate and bedding.

Please tell your friends, family and neighbors who would welcome one or both of these great dogs into their home.  Contact Sherry Jystad at sherryjystad@gmail.com or Corrie Bravo at icarerescue organization, rescue@icaredogrescue.org.  Spread the word, let's find Milo and Mia great homes.

Off Leash Playtime

Our family feels that Dove Canyon is THE best place to live, part of the reason we feel that way is the daily community connection we have through our dog, Diva. Walking Diva has given us the opportunity to meet so many wonderful neighbors and their dogs. On the whole, we have found that Dove Canyon dog owners are responsible pet owners, the majority who do pick up after their pets. Many love to exercise and socialize their dogs by having them run with each other or to play fetch with a favorite ball or toy. This playtime has gone on for over 20 years with few incidents. Understandably, there are people who don't want to encounter an off-leash dog while walking alone, with their dog or child. I totally get and respect their feelings and position on the issue. There are also pet owners who would love to exercise their dog off-leash but afraid for their pet's safety into running off or into on-coming traffic. Then there is the leash law... every Dove resident that we have met are law-biding citizens but, when they run their dogs off-leash, it isn't with criminal intent, The leash law can be placed right there with people who still text and talk on their cell phones while driving. However, Our family personally want to remain law-biding citizens and really believe that Dove should provides a fenced-in area to give residents a place to exercise and socialize their pets so Dove Canyon can be a happy and safe environment for all.

On Tuesday October 11th, at the HOA General Meeting the topic of "Off-Leash" park options will be on the agenda. The meeting starts at 7pm at the Dove Canyon Country Club and the Off-Leash agenda item is scheduled towards the end of the meeting. The HOA posted the three proposed sites on the Dove Canyon online bulletin board yesterday and here they are for you to see. We plan on being there and hope to see all our Dog friends there to.

Summer + Leaving Your Dog in the Car = Not a Good Idea

Common Sense sometimes goes out the window when one is in a hurry. So far this summer I have seen dogs left in cars with windows slightly rolled down. The first was at the Bleinheim Horse Show event where a small dog was yapping away and was in the car for at least 45 minutes while it's owners watched a jumping event. The second was in the Kohls parking lot. Although both days were not hot, it was warm and in the high 70's. Neither dog looked in distress, so I left a copy of an old Dear Abby column I keep in the car for such an occassion on the car's windshield. Dear Abby wrote about the dangers of keeping a pet in a hot car and I hope that the owner who reads it has second thoughts the next time they run errands with their pet. I realized that the article was getting old, so I went ahead and created a new flyer. I'm sharing it with you so you can make copies and keep in your car the next time you see a dog left in a car somewhere.

I do need to add, if you believe the dog is in distress; heavy panting, lethargic or if the temperature is mid 80's or above, I would recommend going into the store and have the owner paged or call police (yes.. it's a crime) or animal control and report it.

It will come with a crate, food and everything it needs. Don't know what kind it is yet. I am soooo tempted, but the look on Harold's face tell's me to ask around first! Let me know : - )

Off Leash Commitee Update

The Off-Leash Play Area Committee met last night at Friends. Thanks to all who choose to go out a rainy evening instead of staying home. We had scouted four possible locations for an off-leash play area and presented them at the meeting. Each site was discussed and the committee selected two to continue on with the feasibility study. The first site is located at the Promenade and the second site is located at the entrance park outside the Dove Canyon gate. Our goal is to consider all costs that would be associated with turning these two sites into an fenced off-leash play area. The sites were selected based on location and the low cost that would be associated in developing them. Our plan is to keep it as simple as possible and the least amount of improvements as possible. The study will taking into consideration insurance costs, fencing, trash receptacles, signage, and more. The feasibility study is also going to include market research and include possible ways to fund the amenity.

Our goal is to involve as many homeowners in the process by keeping them informed through this blog and our facebook page: Real Dogs of Dove Canyon. The Park 4 Paws survey results showed that 147 homeowners were interested in a possible area for their dogs to play. Although 115 were not supportive of this idea, there are still approximately 1,000 residents we did not hear from.

To be honest, the survey was to gauge interest in this possible new amenity, it wasn't suppose to be the final vote on deciding if we should add this amenity, and the HOA Board acted as if it was. They were ready to shut down the idea without knowing actual costs or facts involved in the creation of a off leash play area. Our request was to form a committee to look into the feasibility of creating this new amenity. So thankfully, we were represented at the general meeting to remind them of this, otherwise, it would have been voted down. We appreciate those who support the idea and we appreciate those who support the committee and their efforts even if they don't support the idea of an off-leash play area.

We shall continue with working on a thorough feasibility study at our expense and hope to present it at a general board meeting after the first of the year.

Off Leash Committee 2nd Meeting

The Off Leash Committee is meeting for the second time Tuesday, October 5th at 6:30 pm at Friends. We will be discussing possible locations for the off leash play area. Our goal is to select two sites which are feasible to support an off leash play area for our canine pets. The next step will be to attach costs to those locations so we can include in the feasibility study.

This meeting is open to Dove Canyon residents only. All residents who wish to contribute to the feasibility study are welcome. If you are interested in attending, please let me know so I can make sure we have enough seating. email maryfwong@cox.net.

Thank you.
